Welcome to NCCY
The Northwest CommUnity Coalition for Youth (NCCY) is an
organization of School Leadership, School and Local Law Enforcement,
Faith Based Organizations, Businesses, Community Organizations and
Elected Officials. NCCY meetings are held the 3rd Tuesday of each
month to discuss and strategize on the ways that we can effectively
and positively impact the lives of young people
On April 22, 2004, because of what we saw as the deterioration of
a generation of young people, we formed an organization dedicated to
the mission of keeping our young people safe. That organization
became the Northwest CommUnity Coalition for Youth (NCCY). Through
this effort we have:• Sponsored Youth Forums which provide young
people the opportunity to engage in open dialogue with each other
and with adults in a safe and non-judgmental environment.
- Created and published the NCCY Youth Resource Guide designed to offer young people, parents and educators information on recreational, educational, faith based, health, and other resources available in the northwest and throughout the city. The NCCY Youth Resource Guide also lists those that are partners in our mission of youth safety.
-
Sponsor a weekly conference call that allows schools, local and school law enforcement, faith based and community organizations the opportunity to network with each other, proactively address issues in the schools and in the community and explore “Best Practices” that offer conferees the benefit of learning how issues that they might share with others have been successfully handled and resolved.
-
Formed a School/Merchants Truancy Initiative where northwest schools, the business community, local community and law enforcement work together to strategize on various measures to stem the high rate of truancy in our schools by focusing on and strengthening existing truancy policy, seeking ways to encourage merchants to adhere to policy as it relates to truancy, and by strategizing o means to eliminate the disparities between Public, Charter, Faith Based and Private Schools by lobbying our elected, community and school officials.
-
Developed “Address Safety” a project whereby volunteer young people as well as young people requiring community service work together with local police department and community organizations to install addresses on the fronts and backs of homes in the community so that those homes might be identified in the event of any type of emergency. Over the course of this program approximately 80 young people have participated and over 150 homes have been served.
Sponsored, along with the 14th and 35th Police District Block Captains Association, the “Peacekeepers Appreciation Day” which recognizes the work of safety keepers in our community including, local, School, and Transportation Law Enforcement as well as Firefighters and School Crossing Guards. The proceeds from this event are awarded to the families of fallen police officers.
-
Sponsored the School/Merchants Truancy Initiative Poster Project whose aim is to highlight, showcase, and uplift students with excellent school attendance and to encourage those who have less than excellent attendance that there is value in going to school.
Please join us as we continue to go about the work of making a difference in the lives of those who are our future. Whether you become a participant, supporter, or contributor, we welcome your input. If as it is said “It takes A Village To Raise A Child” it is also true that “The Character Of That Child Will Only Be As Strong As The Posts Which Support It.”
